s9gxjBGFqp1No44G726vx6hcb3iKpVNyDEOuoPPw9AMI love this moment because it brings together many of the reasons I love being a wedding photographer. It’s not every day you are able to capture the spritz of perfume mid-air, nor do we typically see the perfume in the air with our naked eye. It was exciting to be able to put my technical knowledge of photography to use and freeze such a quick moment. Additionally, I’ve noticed over the years that it’s often times the little moments that impact our couples so much on the day of their wedding. They’ve anticipated the walk down the aisle to be an emotional moment, but not putting on their perfume. For us ladies, perfume is typically one of the last things we do while getting ready. On a wedding day, this meant it was the final thing Hannah did before seeing the love of her life for the first time. Executing a creative eye and technical know-how to document a fleeting moment amidst a busy day is a big part of why I’m a wedding photographer.

Bph5zfAoRoKzIbbXSLwOGl3AUGZJqCFUerl-fay3rlwFavorite wedding day photo: I really like this image for a number of reasons. Not only does it capture the classic and refined style of the couple, but it represents a great degree of flexibility and planning. One of the most important lessons I was taught by my first professional mentors was to always have your mind open to pre-visualize a composition. The weather was very unpredictable on Hannah & Steve’s wedding day (as most in Chicago), so I went down to the Lyric Opera the day before to find locations for portraits. I went down at approximately the same time that we would be there the next day and found amazing shafts of light coming through the pillars of this iconic building. I knew this would be a perfect location the following day. It’s always very fun to see planning pay off, particularly when it captures the essence of a couple that they can hold onto forever.
